Denominational Houses of Study

Houses of Study at Eden are groups aimed at improving the denominational preparation for
students outside the UCC.  These houses include activities such as student counseling,
guest speakers, issue forums, mission events, and assistance in preparing for ordination

Carl Schenck

Carl Schenck is Eden's coordinator of all of the Houses of Study and directs the Methodist House of Study. Carl is also an adjunct professor at Eden, teaching both United Methodist Polity and Evangelism.

Carl is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church having served under full time appointment since 1973. During that time, Carl served rural, urban, university, and suburban churches and served as a District Superintendent. He has served churches in Massachusetts, Kansas and Missouri. Prior to his appointment to the Methodist House of Studies, Carl was the Senior Pastor of the Manchester United Methodist Church which is the largest membership UMC in Missouri and one of the one hundred largest UM churches in the United States. He has also served on the adjunct faculty of Illif School of Theology in Denver.

In addition to his pastoral work, Carl has been a delegate to four General Conferences and seven Jurisdictional Conferences of the UMC. He has been a director of two General Agencies of the UMC and served as the Chair of the Jurisdictional Committees on Rules and the Jurisdictional Executive Committee. In the Annual Conference, Carl has served on the Board of Ordained Ministry, Council on Finance and Administration and has chaired the Committee on Equitable Salary, the Church Extension Committee and the Conference Council.
