The Samuel John Schmiechen Lectureship

The family of Samuel John Schmiechen established the Samuel John Schmiechen Lectureship in 1987 in memory of his ministry and in recognition and support of the importance of ministry and the critical nature of preparation for ministry.

Samuel John Schmiechen graduated from Eden Theological Seminary in 1932.  His ministry included serving churches in Augusta, Defiance, and St. Louis, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; and St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In addition, he is remembered for his service as: President of Missouri Valley Synod; member, secretary and president of the Board for National Missions of the Evangelical and Reformed Church; member of the Board of Trustees of Elmhurst College; Chair of the Building Committee for United Theological Seminary in New Brighton, Minnesota.

Commitments to the ministry are also recognized in the lineage of the family of Samuel John Schmiechen.  His father and both of his brothers were ordained into the ministry.  His two sons graduated from Eden Seminary, Daniel R. Schmiechen in 1958 and Peter M. Schmiechen in 1962.

Eden Seminary is one of six theological schools of the United Church of Christ that includes Andover Newton Theological School, Chicago Theological Seminary, Pacific School of Religion, Lancaster Theological Seminary and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.
