“Attitudes Toward the Religious Other: The Christian Landscape”
Dr. Paul Knitter, the Emeritus Paul Tillich Professor of World Religions and Culture at Union Theological Seminary in New York and author of many books including Without Buddha I Could Not Be a Christian, will offer an overview of differing Christian models for understanding and engaging with other religious traditions.

“Christian Identity and Interfaith Engagement”
Dr. Damayanthi Niles, the Professor of Constructive Theology at Eden Theological Seminary whose forthcoming book is entitled Constructing a Christian Theology in a Pluralistic World, will explore Christian theology with an eye toward pluralism: What do Christians bring to multi-faith conversation, and why do Christians need to be part of a multi-faith conversation to be authentically Christian?
“Islam and Christianity as Missionary Religions: Problems and Possibilities
Dr. Dale Bishop, who formerly served as the Area Executive for the Middle East for the UCC Church Board for World Ministries and the Executive Minister of the UCC’s Wider Church Ministries, will explore Islam and Christianity as missionary religions and the contemporary American phenomenon of Islamaphobia and its cultural, political and theological implications.

“Interfaith Engagement: Where Do We Go from Here?”
A panel discussion with Dr. Bishop, Dr. Knitter, Dr. Niles and Coral Gables UCC senior minister Dr. Laurinda Haffner. The panel will address the practical challenge of interfaith dialogue and work. What can participants and their churches do to advance interfaith engagement in the Miami area?
Laity and clergy are warmly invited to attend the Limper program. Although each lecture will stand on its own, those who are able to attend all of the sessions will have a deeper experience.
All sessions will take place at the Coral Gables UCC—3010 De Soto Blvd. The cost for the entire program and both lunches is $15 before January 6 and $20 after January 6 and at the door. Scholarships are available.
