Art McCoy, Ph.D., is a superintendent of schools, nationally recognized education consultant, and author. He is an inspiring CPB American Graduate 2017 “Champion for Children.” At age 19, he began his career, reportedly as the youngest certified teacher in the State of Missouri, as a high school math teacher. In December 2010, Dr. McCoy was named the youngest and 1st African-American Superintendent/CEO of Ferguson-Florissant School District at age 33 and a leader for Harvard’s Pathways to Prosperity. In 2016, he became Superintendent of Jennings School District, which has achieved 100% graduation, career, and college placement in 2017 and 2018. He founded SAGES, which has the mission to “Sever the Achievement Gap in the Education of Students and Sever Attainment Gaps Existing in Society.” He has raised more than 12 million dollars to sustain and increase innovative initiatives for students and has served over 1 million students and 2500 schools and colleges across America.

Dr. McCoy served in a leadership role on numerous executive boards including the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis—Education Chair, Midwest Health Initiative, Boy Scouts of America—Vice Councilmen, Missouri Association of School Administrators, Federal Reserve Bank, St. Louis Magic House, Harris Stowe-State University Board of Regents—Gubernatorial appointee, Construction Education Foundation, University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor’s Council—Co-Chair of Academic Affairs,  Ranken Technical College, the Muny, and the Grand Commission for African-American Males of Sigma Pi Phi.  Harris-Stowe State University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the St. Louis American, The Boy Scouts of America, the NAACP,  and BJC St. Louis Children’s Hospital are among the many organizations that have recognized him for excellence in leadership.

The breakfast gathering is part of the Langenberg Leadership Forum, a program for business and organizational leaders offered through The Walker Leadership Institute at Eden Theological Seminary.
