Tragic events and devastating division have renewed our urgency to create a shared understanding of the impact of social and racial disparities. People are asking themselves and their congregations what they can and should do. How do we develop individuals, organizations and systems that are engaged with intentional efforts to encourage everyone to feel safe to fully show up and contribute their best?
This cultural competency learning immersion is the beginning. Together, we will explore our national and local history, current socio-cultural dynamics to understand how to navigate complex issues, build cultural capacity and support individuals and the congregations they lead to work together to improve life outcomes for members and the broader community.
We will adopt a shared vocabulary that grows attendees ability to engage in meaningful, productive conversations. Participants will enhance learning that encourages diverse, inclusive, equitable and respectful environments. Attendees will develop an awareness of their cultural worldview, understand attitudes towards cultural differences and increase cross-cultural skills. Developing cultural competence results in the ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across difference.
Class size is limited to 20.
