Certificate Course: The Treasure of Solomon

Course Description:
Solomon is remembered as one of Israel’s greatest kings.  But was he?  We’ll start with the narrative material about Solomon in 1 Kings 3-11, and move on to his literary legacy that is found in Psalms 72 and 127, portions of the Book of Proverbs, the Book of Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon (Song of Songs).  Participants can decide for themselves how great Solomon was; but spoiler alert, I’ll suggest that Solomon’s literary legacy was much greater than the actual person.  In any case, we’ll have an eye toward how the literary legacy of Solomon may continue to instruct and inspire faithful people and communities today.
